Australia

US 2, Australia 1 - As viewed from my living room and kitchen in Providence.

5 points to Edson Buddle for being in the right place at the right time (twice) and finishing... 2 points to Robbie Findley for being in the right place at the right time (twice) and not finishing... Tim Howard looked good, Marcus Hahnemann looked rather dicey... Plenty of good passing throughout the midfield and occasionally we looked really good attacking... Congrats to Jonathan Bornstein for not looking terrible (Jews of the world unite)... Hercules Gomez getting a goal was great... Gooch looking gimpy hobbling around was not.

Countdown

Why is our countdown clock 18 hours ahead of the one on Soccernet?

Passports and Credit Cards

Tortilla Flats, Providence, 6/4/10, 11:49pm.

Matt (to girlfriend, Kate): So they bought tickets to the World Cup, but they don't know if they'll be able to use them.

Andrew (to Matt): Well, all we need to do is use Jeremy's credit card and passport.

Jenna (to Andrew): Did Jeremy send Noah his passport?

Andrew: [Panicked pause] Uh, holy shit. I don't know.

Andrew (text to Jeremy): Question: did you give Noah your passport and credit card?

Jeremy (text to Andrew): Haha. love how you worry - sent on tues, Noah got it on thur. Were good to go.

Planners? Planners.

This makes almost no sense

Also, I'm really not sure how this "celebrates originality" seeing as they basically stole one of the most famous movie scenes of all time and added Beckham and Snoop but whatever.

South Africa is Everywhere

Today's activity:

Watching Pumping Iron.

The matchup: Arnold Schwarzenegger vs. Lou Ferrigno.

The competition: 1975 Mr. Olympia Competition.

The location: Pretoria, South Africa.

Of course.

Today's Musings

Conversation on gchat, 6/4/10, 1:24pm ET...

Jeremy: wow, drogba and ferdinand both go down
thats big
Andrew: drogba too?
Jeremy: yeah, you didnt see that? fractured his elbow
Andrew: just saw it
shit
that sucks
Jeremy: god, england is going to be ripe
Andrewi was excited to see what ivory coast would do
Jeremy: and yeah, i dont even like drogba, and that really sucks
me too
Andrew: ive turned on drogba
you should read the piece in SI on him
he basically single-handedly ended civil war
Jeremy: oh
ha
well, maybe i should read it
i mean, i really respect his skill level
just dont care for his style
little like kobe
Andrew: yeah but kobe is a huge asshole who i legitmately hate
ive now decided drogba plays for a team i dislike but i would have been rooting for him/ivory coast to get out of that group
so essien, drogba, ballack, ferdinard, beckham, pirlo
all dicey
wow
Jeremy: yeah, really unfortunate
while on some level everyone that gets hurt helps us a little, you really want to see the best tournament possible
and drogba for the ivory coast and essien for ghana are such huge pieces for those teams
i was also getting ready to jump on any and all africa nation bandwagons departing the station
Andrew: yeah seriously
i mean, beckham wasnt going to do much, fuck pirlo, i feel bad about ballack, but i dont really care
but tearing the hearts out of those african teams is just brutal
just picked up a book called Africa United
very excited
Jeremy: haha
Andrew: there should be some sweet way for us to record our inocuous world cup related conversations on the blog
by the way, the swollen ankle looks like it should belong to a 500lb man
Jeremy: that belonged to me
and it was ugly
Andrew: i figured it was you
Jeremy: also, maybe we just copy and paste this into a post?
Andrew: ha
done
im on it

T-Minus 8 Days, 12 Hours, 30 Minutes

Just bought sweet, retro 1950 US Soccer jersey.

Percent of brain power dedicated to the World Cup has passed 70%.

T-Minus 8 Days, 21 Hours, 12 Minutes

This is the official blog of the Three Kings v2.0. We'll use this space to document the journey to, and experience at, South Africa 2010. Mostly, I'll just be posting weird lists that categorize the trip. For example, I have it in my notes from Germany 2006 that we watched the Ukraine-Switzerland match on a ferry to Sweden. I don't know why this is important, but it is.

Aside from my own oddities, I think we can all use this to document the trip with blogs, videos and photos. With Jeremy at home and rest of us abroad, I think it will be enjoyable.

And so I will leave you with the awards from 2006:

"When there is smoke, there's fire"Award - Jeremy
"Sleeping on the floor" Award - Andrew
"Sound and fury, signifying nothing" Award - Swiss Border Patrol
"Even a nation of a million can't hold us down" Award - U.S. fans in the Italian Mob
"Open Container" Award - European Legistlatures
"Carry on my wayward son" Award - The Party Bus
"Knowing when to say when" Award - No one
